Year In Review #1
I wanted to do a year in review with something for every day of December, but I have been so busy with family and studio that I havn't had time at all. So today, while I eat my cereal and wait for Austin's email, I thought I would try to start and get at least one review story on here.
Thinking over the last year, I know there is a lot that happened and a lot that I could write about but I can't seem to remember everything. Today though I thought back to March 24, 2010. Kaitlin's 18th birthday. Birthdays usually are memorable and this was no exception. What should have been a great day, was a very scary day. Kaitlin and the rest of the MVHS FCCLA team were on their way to state. Kaitlin had stayed up late working on her project. It was a great project using her Japanese dress that she made and modeled. She was pretty excited to share. Even though we know that the roads and weather can still be bad in March, it looked fine here. The bus left the school about 6 am and the trip, and day, began.
I was "talking" to Austin through email when I got a phone call from Kaitlin. She was crying and said that the bus had just wrecked. My Wamsutter, there was ice, fog, and a HUGE pile up! One boy was commenting on cars that were sliding and cars that were already wrecked. Kaitlin turned to look at him and he said Kaitlin went white. He said, "we're going to get hit aren't we?" Kaitlin said a semi truck was headed right for them. I know that driver thought in his head, "I can't hit a bus load of kids". He managed to turn the wheel. As the semi slid, it barely swiped the side of the bus forcing it off the road and to safety. Since the bus was now in the bar ditch, Lynette just continued driving passed the rest of the accidents. She got the kids to Wamsutter where they stayed in the school until the road opened and Bob got a new bus out to pick them up. They didn't get home until after 10 that night.
I was so relieved to hear that they were on their way home. So grateful to Lynette for their safety. Eternally grateful to the semi driver that avoided hitting that bus full of kids. Grateful to the Wamsutter people who took care of our kids, and forever grateful to my Heavenly Father for watching over my girl that day. What would I have ever done if something had happened to her?!
