A Week To Forget

Well, our week really hasn't gone as planned. Let me tell you about it:

Friday came and it was a beautiful morning. Kim Gray picked me up and we headed out for the Saratoga tournament. Roads were clear and it was great. The tournament was a little slow starting and the boys were a little groggy but we got them all hyped up and ready to wrestle. Travis was doing great! He was undefeated and headed for the Semi's. He had to face Bonner Brown. He was hyper and excited. Pretty sure he could win this time against him. Then they announced that they wouldn't be wrestling the semi's Friday night, they were moving them to Saturday morning. Trav was bummed because he was doing so good. Saturday morning came and Travis was sick. He had thrown up twice. He really wasn't ready to wrestle one of the hardest matches of the year. He told me, "How about I beat Bonner then forfeit. I'll be happy with second cause I just don't feel good." I told him fine, go win! He was wrestling so good. The score was 1-2. Bonner the take down, Trav the escape. Then all Hell broke loose!!! Bonner had Travis in a single leg and swiped the other leg. Down they came. Trav was out cold, and I was freaking out!!!  Coach finally got him to come around, Kim had me in the corner calming me down. After a while we got him up and into the stands. I gave him so Advil and talked to him for a bit. Then I went over to talk to Kim and get a drink. Shortly after that Sadie (a manager) yelled and said, "Sherry, he's not breathing!" I ran over there. Sadie said that he had been shaking really bad and then just quit and wasn't breathing. He had had a seizure. He was on his face and I couldn't get him to wake up! Finally, we rolled him over and he woke up but was purple and told us he couldn't breathe. I got Stu and he came over. Two nurses came up in the stands and then they called the ambulance. Travis knew who I was, knew that his big sister was "Kate", but didn't recognize Stu and he didn't know where we were. I was really scared.

We got him in the ambulance and they took us to the Rawlins hospital. There I was very disappointed! Saturday night we stayed up really late watching movies. Travis admitted to me later that he was scared to go to sleep. I can't blame him there. I just hope he's not too scared to wrestle again.

I have learned more about Travis' condition from the school nurse, than anyone at Rawlins. The doctor told us he was good to go and could return to wrestling whenever he felt like. Ellen (the nurse) said, "Sherry, I don't feel comfortable with this. I think he needs checked out more." So we took him to Urgent Care in Evanston and she told us how dangerous his concussion really was. She's the one that told us it wasn't shock, but a seizure that he had. She won't release him for regionals this weekend so he's done for the year. He had an amazing chance to place at regionals and a good chance to place at state. But at least he is alive and walking! He has two more years of high school wrestling. It's that stupid sophomore curse!!

So we end with a 17-11 record. Placing 3rd at Bear Lake Classic and 6th at Carbon County (due to injury.)  Ranked 3rd in the West-112-3A, 4th and then later 6th in the State-112-3A.

Next year--He'll get 'em, next year!
